TransVault™ Minimizes Disruption of Notes to Exchange Migration
New tool reduces the costs and business impact of migrating user’s data.
London, UK, Inbox Outbox, 19th June 2007. UK messaging experts Essential has today announced its latest release of TransVault, an application designed to migrate email and other data types between different archive repositories and formats.
Version 1.2 of TransVault helps organizations migrate from Lotus Notes® to Microsoft® Exchange, enabling emails, encrypted items, calendars and address books to be converted and made seamlessly accessible from Exchange without disrupting end-users and with no email service down time. It also avoids moving what could amount to several Terabytes of Notes data onto new Exchange servers.
According to TransVault customer James Morris, Group Infrastructure Manager at leading global marketing services company, Aegis Media, “Using TransVault we are able to switch staff across to Exchange without impacting our email service or putting undue stress on our IT resources”
TransVault’s revolutionary approach takes advantage of popular archiving technology such as ZANTAZ Enterprise Archive Solution, enabling Notes data to be gathered centrally, optimized and then converted without impacting end user access to data. Complete items (or much smaller shortcuts to the archived version) are then put into the user’s new Outlook mailbox ready for when they log in.
Aegis Media's London office handles 4.5 million incoming messages per month. Growing pressure to retain electronic information for increasing periods of time to meet internal business requirements, and the requirements of regulations such as Sarbanes Oxley, meant the company's data stores were doubling in size year-on-year.
“It was important that we didn't populate our new Exchange servers with what could easily have been Terabytes of legacy Notes data. Using TransVault in combination with the ZANTAZ EAS archive solution we have been able to rationalize our email storage and we have already reclaimed 4 Terabytes,” continued Morris.
According to Barney Haye, Business Development Director at Essential, “TransVault helps organizations cope with whatever the future brings, ensuring they meet business and compliance goals without the costs and overhead of maintaining legacy systems and ‘islands’ of data. This release is especially useful for large migration projects as there’s no need to consolidate Domino servers prior to migration and everything happens whilst users are still connected to their Notes mailboxes. This approach saves a lot of expense, and being able to move users’ information to Exchange during the working day avoids lots of out-of-hours migration work. It also means the end user transitioning stage can take place in a less pressured environment, which can make a huge difference to the success of a migration project.”
